Installation package
The macOS download is a local Codex plugin archive. It requires uv and the Codex CLI; it is not a standalone desktop installer. Follow the setup steps below, or use the INSTALL.md included in the archive.
Install the Codex CLI and uv. Make uv available to Codex before starting the plugin.
Choose a folder you will keep. Preserve the hidden .agents folder. The extracted folder contains INSTALL.md and plugins/anywhere-computer.
Replace the example path with your extracted folder, then run:
codex plugin marketplace add "/absolute/path/to/anywhere-computer-local-install"
codex plugin add anywhere-computer@anywhere-computer
codex plugin list --marketplace anywhere-computer --jsonCheck that Anywhere Computer is installed and enabled. If an existing installation uses another folder, follow its update procedure to preserve its settings.
Ask Anywhere Computer to check the connection, then try a small file read. Installing the plugin does not connect other AI clients automatically.
Start with a connection check and a small file read. Then describe the result you want, and name the app or file if you know it.
Check the connection and read this file.
Find the documents I need and summarise them.
Save the result in this folder, then read it back to check it.
When a task creates or edits a file, ask Anywhere Computer to save the result and read it back. Check the saved file or the app's final state to confirm the task is complete.
Set up the HTTPS MCP connection and owner authentication on your computer. Add that connection to Chat or Work, then check it from the client you plan to use.
Add your computer's HTTPS MCP connection to dot. To receive messages and updates, also set up dot's event subscription.
OpenAI API features are optional. Configure the key on your computer, where it is stored in the operating system's credential store. API usage may incur charges from OpenAI.
Available tools depend on the host and connection setup. Check the connection in each client before starting a task.
Desktop control needs a supported Computer Use MCP server, its application permissions and the operating system's permissions. Access to an app is separate from permission to send messages or change its content.
Some hosts display confirmations themselves. When a supported AC connection provides an owner review page, answer there, then return to the original conversation to check the result.
Read about the project in the Journal. For the local installation procedure, keep the INSTALL.md included in the archive.
